Microchipping & Licensing
Microchipping
At Bangor Humane Society, we believe in taking preventative measures to help return your pet safely to you if they go missing. That is why all of our adopted pets come with a microchip included in their adoption. These chips come with their own ID number that corresponds to your information.
However, we offer these 24PetWatch microchips on-site at BHS. They are available to be implanted in any pet for $20 and an annual renewal fee. Our friendly staff has been trained to quickly and comfortably implant 24PetWatch MiniChips. Registration is quick and easy via their website or phone service.

Licensing
We issue a temporary license upon adopting any of our dogs to take with you when registering your pet. The State of Maine requires all dogs to be licensed. When looking to license your own dog, you will need to reach out to your local town office.
You need to show proof of rabies vaccination and pay a small fee for the license yearly. Fees slightly higher for unaltered dogs. Please reach out to your town office for more information. Visit the state of Maine’s Dog Licensing page here.
